Dentures

WHAT IS A DENTURE?

A removable denture is a prosthesis placed in the mouth containing replacement teeth, typically mounted in a base made of a pink gum-colored resin formed to an exact fit over your existing gums. They are designed to be removable without the assistance of a dental professional.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DENTURES?

Dentures are an option to replace all teeth in the upper and/or lower jaw of the mouth. By replacing the missing teeth in the mouth, they provide improved aesthetics and improved overall function for eating and speech.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT MY DENTURE APPOINTMENTS?

The process of creating dentures involves numerous appointments. The visits involve taking impressions of your gums and any teeth, photographs, and specific measurements in order to create an ideal fit, shape, and look of your final dentures. If you have existing teeth that require extractions, it is oftentimes possible to sequence your appointments in a way that you will never have to go without teeth – you will have the final extractions completed and the denture given to you at the same appointment.

HOW DO I CARE FOR A DENTURE?

Instructions for denture care can be found on the “Patient Handouts” page.

It is important that you continue regular dental appointments after having a denture made. They may need adjustments, will wear over time, and the fit will likely loosen due to the bone and gums underneath shrinking. With regular checkups, this can be monitored and repairs or relines can be done to maintain optimal function and aesthetics.
