Dental Bridges

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a permanent prosthetic restoration used to replace a missing tooth. It uses teeth on either side of the missing tooth for support. Bridges can be made from white material (porcelain, zirconia) or from metal or gold.

What Are the Benefits of a Bridge?
Bridges are a permanent solution to replace missing teeth that cannot be taken in and out of the mouth, such as with a removable partial denture. It is important to replace missing teeth to prevent the other teeth from shifting, maintain an optimal bite, maintain chewing ability, and maintain speaking ability. They also can generally be completed faster than dental implants, which are another tooth replacement option.

What Should I Expect at My Bridge Appointment?
Getting a bridge typically requires multiple appointments to complete the process. At the first appointment, the teeth on either side of the missing tooth are prepared for the bridge. They will become the support structure for the missing tooth/teeth. An impression is taken of the prepared teeth, which will be used by a dental lab to create the final bridge. We will provide you with a temporary bridge while your final restoration is being made. When the final restoration is ready, we will remove the temporary bridge and replace it with the permanent one. Once completed, the area is restored to optimal function and appearance.

How Do I Care for a Bridge?
You should care for your bridges in the same way you care for your natural teeth by brushing and flossing daily. Because the bridge is one connected unit, we will show you how to clean under the bridge using floss threaders. Water flossers are another very helpful tool to keep the bridge and gums healthy. Routine dental checkups and exams and necessary for follow up care. With proper care, bridges can last for many years
